It Is Already Finished

The Christian life does not begin with what you must do. It begins with what Jesus has already done. On the cross He did not say, “It is started,” or “Now do your part.” He said, “It is finished.”

The Greek word He used, tetelestai, was a commercial term. It was written across a bill of debt when the final payment had been made. Nothing outstanding. Nothing owing. Archaeologists have found papyri bearing that single word stamped over settled accounts. That is the word Jesus chose for your salvation.

Perfect forever

Hebrews 10:14 says, “For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” Read that slowly. Perfect forever. Not perfect until Friday. Not perfect on your better days. The verse holds two truths together: your standing is already perfect, and your walk is still being worked out. Confusing those two is the root of most Christian discouragement.

You cannot improve a finished work. You can only receive it, rest in it, and live from it.

So many believers pray as though heaven is hesitating. They serve to be accepted rather than serving because they are accepted. They read Scripture looking for the next requirement rather than the next revelation of what is already theirs.

Today, look again at the cross and let it settle your heart. The debt was paid in full, the record of wrongs was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14), and the sacrifice will never need repeating. Your part is not to complete it. Your part is to believe it and walk in it.
