“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Two words in this verse deserve your attention: now, and no. Not one day. Not after you have made up for last week. Now. And not less condemnation, or manageable condemnation. No condemnation.
Many believers cannot tell the difference between the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the condemnation of the accuser. They feel similar in the body but they move you in opposite directions. Conviction is specific, hopeful, and draws you toward God. Condemnation is vague, heavy, and drives you away from Him.
The Spirit convicts to restore you. The accuser condemns to isolate you.
Where the accuser lost his case
Revelation 12:10 calls the enemy the accuser of the brethren, and says he was overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Notice he is not overcome by your improvement. He is overcome by the blood — an argument he cannot answer.
When guilt returns for a sin already confessed and cleansed, you are not being spiritual by carrying it. You are re-litigating a case God has already closed. Answer the accusation with the blood of Jesus and get back to living.
Confession
There is now no condemnation for me, because I am in Christ Jesus. I answer every accusation with the blood of Jesus and I walk free today.
Prayer
Father, thank you that in Christ there is no condemnation over my life. Teach me to recognise the gentle conviction of your Spirit and to refuse the shame of the accuser. I receive your cleansing and I walk in freedom today, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
