How to get baptised.

A step-by-step guide to water baptism in Bloemfontein — what it means, what to expect, and how to sign up.

Published 10 July 2026 · REIGN Church

Water baptism is one of the clearest and most joyful first steps a follower of Jesus takes. If you've said yes to Jesus, this is your next step.

What baptism is

Baptism is a public picture of what has already happened inside you. Going under the water pictures dying with Jesus; coming up pictures rising with Him to a new life. "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." (Romans 6:4)

Who should be baptised

Every believer. In the book of Acts, people were baptised as soon as they believed — no waiting list, no long course. If you have chosen to follow Jesus, baptism is your next step.

The steps

  1. Say yes to Jesus. If you haven't yet, start at the Gospel.
  2. Sign up. Fill in the baptism form on this site.
  3. Chat to a pastor. Someone from the team will reach out to answer questions.
  4. Come to the next baptism Sunday. Bring family and friends — this is a celebration.

What to bring on the day

Something to wear in the water that you don't mind being fully soaked — dark shorts and a plain t-shirt work well. Bring a towel and a change of dry clothes. Invite everyone.

The moment

A pastor will pray with you, briefly share your story, and baptise you fully in the water. It takes seconds. The impact lasts forever.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get baptised at REIGN Church?

Fill in the Baptism form on the REIGN Church website. A pastor will contact you to talk it through, and you'll be baptised at the next scheduled Sunday baptism service.

What is water baptism?

Baptism is a public act where a believer is fully immersed in water as a picture of dying to the old life and being raised to new life in Jesus (Romans 6:4). It's an outward declaration of an inward decision.

Do I need to have been a Christian for long?

No. In the New Testament, people were baptised as soon as they believed (Acts 8:36–38). If you have said yes to Jesus, you are ready to be baptised.

Do I get baptised as a baby or as a believer?

REIGN Church practices believer's baptism — baptising people who have personally decided to follow Jesus, at any age they are able to make that decision themselves.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear something comfortable you don't mind getting fully wet in — dark shorts and a plain t-shirt work well. Bring a towel and a change of clothes.

Can my family and friends come?

Yes — invite everyone. Baptism is a celebration of what God has done, and it is powerful for family and friends to witness.
